TRA Softball wins Division 2-A State Championship
The 2014 Lady Rebel softball team went undefeated in the State Tournament and won their second Division 2-A State Championship in four years with an 8-4 victory over Davidson Academy. The Lady Rebels also defeated USJ 6-4 and Ezell-Harding 2-1 en route to the title.
Senior Jacob LaFosse signs with Southwest Tennessee CC
Senior Jacob LaFosse signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his baseball career at Southwest Tennessee Community College in Memphis.
Senior Tyler Vernon signs with The University of Memphis
Senior Tyler Vernon signed with the University of Memphis and was accepted into the school's Musical Theatre program. The U of M only accepts 10 students per year out of the hundreds of applicants.
TRA Baseball finishes as Division 2-A State Runner-Up
The 2014 Rebel baseball team capped off an excellent season with a Division 2-A State Runner-Up finish. The Rebels knocked perennial powers Knoxville Webb and Battle Ground Academy out of the tournament. The Rebels finished 34-8.
Softball Coach Johnie Sanfratello named Coach of the Year by Commercial Appeal
Head Softball Coach Johnie Sanfratello was named Softball Coach of the Year for the entire Memphis Metro Area by the Commercial Appeal. Sanfratello led his team to a Division 2-A State Championship in his first year as Head Coach at TRA.
27 TRA Students Compete in Math Competition
Twenty-seven TRA students recently competed in the TMTA Math Competition held on the campus of Dyersburg State. The Rebels had four students place in the top three. Mitch Long placed first in Geometry. Colton Olds placed second in Precalculus, while Andrew Edmiston placed second in Calculus. Patrick Brown took third place in Geometry.
Senior Jackie Kuykendall awarded $1,000 National Beta Club Scholarship
The National Beta Club Scholarship recipients have been announced. Two hundred fifty-six Betas were named Beta Scholars for 2014. Jackie Kuykendall was among this list of elite scholars, who each received a $1,000 scholarship. Jackie will be continuing her education at Austin Peay State University.
Senior Sean O'Brien signs to play Football with Hendrix College
Senior Sean O'Brien signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his football career at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. O'Brien is the first Rebel to sign a college football scholarship since Blake Tickle signed with Lambuth in 2009.
TRA Choir Wins Big in New York City Choir Competition
The TRA Choir traveled to New York City and won Best Overall Choir at the Festival. Senior Maddye Regis was named Best Soloist. The Choir won first place in the Show Choir Division and the Women's Jazz Choir Division. TRA finished second in Women's Choir and third in Concert Choir.
Matt Moody signs with Freed-Hardeman University for Basketball
Senior Matt Moody will continue his basketball career next year at Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tennessee, as a preferred walk-on. The Lions finished 29-6 this year, and reached the NAIA National Quarterfinals.
TRA's "Fiddler on the Roof" nominated for seven High School Musical Theatre Awards by the Orpheum Theatre
TRA received 7 nominations from the Orpheum Theatre's High School Musical Theatre Awards for their production of "Fiddler on the Roof." Senior Reva Obenchain was nominated for Best Supporting Actress, and senior McKenzie Brower was nominated for Best Dancer. The "Bottle Dancers" - Ethan Kaiser, Collin McCain, Ian Baxter, and A. J. Hightower - were nominated for Best Ensemble, while "Teyve's Dream" was nominated for Best Overall Production Number. TRA also received nominations for Best Front of House, Best Production Materials, and Best Set Design. The winners will be announced on Monday, May 12.
Sean O'Brien and Logan Mayo recognized as "Student of the Month" for April and May
Senior Logan Mayo was named "Student of the Month" by the South Tipton Chamber of Commerce for the month of April. Sean O'Brien was the winner for May. They were honored at a breakfast earlier this month. The Student of the Month award is sponsored by Patriot Bank.
Seven TRA Seniors Recognized at Commercial Appeal C-Spire Academic All-Stars Banquet
TRA had 7 C-Spire Commercial Appeal Academic All-Stars for 2013-14. The students, which comprised the largest delegation ever from TRA, were honored at an awards banquet on Thursday, May 1st at the Hilton in Memphis. They were Maddye Regis (Music), Connor Alexander (General Scholarship), Andrew Edmiston (General Scholarship), Reva Obenchain (Music), Tyler Vernon (Speech and Drama), McKenzie Brower (English and Literature), and Alexandra Bobbitt (Spanish).
Carole Mathis Receives 30-Year Music Educator's Award
Carole Mathis received a 30-year Music Educator's Award from the Tennessee Music Educators Association for 2014. She was presented with this plaque by the TMEA Conference President at the Opening Ceremonies of the conference at the Cannon Center.
Madison Cranford Elected President of State of Tennessee Student Council Association
Junior Madison Cranford was elected President of the Tennessee Association of Student Councils for next school year at the TASC State Convention in Knoxville. Madison currently serves as the West Tennessee Area Representative.
Middle School Receives Awards at Student Council Convention
The Middle School Student Council received the Four-Star Award at their recent convention in Knoxville. Several students also received individual recognition. (Left to right) Logan Carson, Brittany Hall, Haley Ramsey, Sydney Pilkington, Katelyn Stewart, and Whitney Williamson. Brittany won the middle school speech competition, Katelyn was named "Member of the Year", Logan received the "Above and Beyond" Award, and all six young ladies received "Rising Star" awards.
Maddye Regis named Commercial Appeal Academic All-Star
Maddye, a senior, is an accomplished singer and leader in her school. She holds a 3.7907 grade point average and was selected for the Tennessee Governor's School for the Arts last summer. She has earned the Headmaster's List and Academic Excellence Award every year of high school and has been inducted into the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta and Beta Club. She is a six-year All-West Honor Choir Award winner and qualified for the All-State Honor Choir. Recently, she was selected as a 2014 American Idol contestant.
A two-time Academic All-Star, Maddye received a solo and ensemble superior rating from 2008-2013. She was the Voice of Tipton 2013 winner and a Mid-South Fair Semifinalist in 2011. She is an active member of the school Concert Choir, Girls Jazz Ensemble and Competition Show Choir. She has served as a choir officer for four years and has been instrumental in mentoring younger choir students. She has been Lead Actress in several musical theatre productions. Her most recent role as Nellie in "South Pacific" earned a nomination as Outstanding Lead Actress for the Orpheum Theatre's High School Musical Theatre Awards.

Matt Moody and Taylor Beasley named Commercial Appeal Best of the Preps for Basketball
Senior Matt Moody and Sophomore Taylor Beasley were named to the Commercial Appeal Best of the Preps basketball teams. Pepsi Best of the Preps is a program presented by The Commercial Appeal to recognize, promote and encourage athletics among high schools in the Greater Memphis area. The players of the year will be announced at the 45th annual awards presentation on June 6, 2014, at the Germantown Performing Arts Center.
McKenzie Brower named Commercial Appeal Academic All-Star
McKenzie, a senior, is a born teacher. She constantly volunteers to teach others. She holds a 3.9 unweighted grade point average and scored a 29 on the ACT with a 34 on the English portion of the test. From dance to English class discussions to community service to chemistry homework, McKenzie is there volunteering to teach. For her senior project, she tutored elementary school students in reading. She attended the Murray State Commonwealth Honor Academy for a month last summer, where she earned college credit in the Hummanities. The program emphasized writing.
As vice-president of the National Honor Society, McKenzie spearheads service projects. She has been a leader in getting students involved. McKenzie will graduate with an Honors Diploma with Distinction in May. She is a member of the Beta Club and Mu Alpha Theta, the math honor society.
McKenzie also is involved with the theater department, both on and off the stage. She choreographed and taught the dances for the middle school's production of "The Little Mermaid Jr." She traveled on a mission trip to serve a homeless shelter in Chicago, where she led singing and craft-making for the children.
Kendall Seering to play volleyball at the University of Memphis
TRA Volleyball standout senior Kendall Seering will continue her volleyball career next year at the University of Memphis, announcing her preferred walk-on status with the Memphis Lady Tigers on April 9. Seering has been a part of the Lady Rebel Volleyball varsity program the past three years. She was joined by teammates, special guests and parents Cheryl and JR for the ceremony held on campus. Seering has been playing volleyball since the sixth grade playing for the Lady Rebels and the Memphis Juniors Club team.

7th and 8th Grade Basketball Girls Win District Championship
The 7th and 8th Grade girls basketball team defeated FACS 32-24 in the district championship game and finished the season with a 21-2 record. TRA Baseball Field Named "Field of the Year"
Head Baseball Coach Brad Smith received the Division II Field of The Year Award for 2013 from the Tennessee Baseball Coaches' Association. Brad was presented with the award at the TBCA Annual Convention in Franklin.
Heidi Miller Given Top Scholarship to Governor's School
Sophomore Heidi Miller was selected for Tennessee Governor's School for the Arts in Music and received the top scholarship awarded. Governor's School will take place June 1-26 at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro.
Xen Penny signs to play baseball at Hesston College
Senior Xen Penny signed a national letter of intent to continue his baseball career at Hesston College in Kansas. Hesston finished the 2013 season 26-18 and won the NJCAA Region VI Championship.

Two TRA Students named Semifinalists for National Beta Club Scholarship
Seniors Christen Caradine and Jackie Kuykendall are among thirty-seven Tennessee seniors who have been named National Beta Club 2014 Scholarship Semifinalists, qualifying them for scholarship awards ranging from $1,000 - $15,000. Finalists will be featured on The National Beta web site.
Senior Maddye Regis earned a "Golden Ticket" and a trip to Hollywood as she advanced in Fox's American Idol singing competition
Maddye Regis impressed Harry Connick Jr., Jennifer Lopez, and Keith Urban with her rendition of "Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay" in Atlanta so much so that she advanced to the next round of Fox's American Idol, which will take place in Hollywood. Maddye was seen multiple times during the February 5th show, where her journey ended in the top 160 singers in the competition.
Senior Ashton Needham signed a National Letter of Intent to play softball at Northwest Mississippi Community College
Senior Ashton Needham will follow her former teammate Roxanna Kimes and will continue her education and softball playing career at Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia, Mississippi next year after signing a National Letter of Intent in January.

Thirteen TRA Students Qualify for Mid-South Fair Talent Show; Senior Maddye Regis Wins Top Prize
Senior Maddye Regis won the TRA Talent Show for the third time, while thirteen TRA students advanced to compete in the Mid-South Fair Talent Competition in September. Maddye was followed by runner-up Reva Obenchain; third place went to 50% Ethan (composed of Ethan Carpenter, Ethan Kaiser, Shelbi Sellers, and Rachel Thomas). The following acts rounded out the Top 10: Shelbi Sellers (4th), Kelsey Brooks (5th), Logan King (6th), Meghan Gilbreath (7th), Blake Kelley (8th), Gracie Easley (9th), and Collin McCain (10th). The invitations to the Mid-South Fair went to the top six places as well as Rachel Thomas, Jessi Edgerly, Collin McCain, Blake Kelley, Will Long, and Los Suenos Band (Collin McCain, Will Long, and Tom Hale).
Alexandra Bobbitt named Commercial Appeal Academic All-Star
Alexandra, a senior, is a top scholar who excels in the study of Spanish. She holds a 3.987 unweighted grade point average and scored 29 on the ACT. She is an enthusiastic Spanish student who has maintained an "A" average in each of her Spanish classes. She participated in the University of Memphis Foreign Language Fair. She has served as President of the Spanish Club for the past two years. She currently is enrolled in all Honors, Dual Enrollment and AP courses. An inspiring leader for her classmates and faculty, Alexandra was selected as a Student Ambassador. She is vice president of the Science Club and an active member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club and Mu Alpha Theta. She has been in six theatrical productions, and she restored the school's soccer program. She played basketball and tennis and was a cheerleader. Alexandra also has a heart for service. She is passionate about the work that is done for Relay for Life. As part of a senior service project, she logged more than 30 hours working to decrease the number of abortions locally. She also volunteers with the Memphis Union Mission.
TRA Middle School Fine Arts presents The Little Mermaid Jr. Musical January 30-February 2 in the TRA Performing Arts Center
TRA's Middle School Fine Arts Department presents Disney's The Little Mermaid Jr. in the TRA Performing Arts Center from Thursday, January 30 through Sunday, February 2. Performances will take place on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. The 65-minute musical, designed for middle-school aged performers, is based on the 2008 Broadway production and the 1989 animated feature film. The TRA cast contains 44 students led by director Todd Goode.
"It has been such a blessing to be able to bring a show of this caliber in as our first-ever Middle School musical. The middle school students are so talented and have been such a joy to work with. It has also been great to work with the high schoolers, who are now taking on leadership roles in this production and serving as directors, choreographers, and assistants in this show. Please come enjoy the fruits of their labor. I think you will truly be blown away by the talent of this group!"
This classic Disney show contains all of the songs from the Academy Award winning animated feature film as well as three new songs from the Broadway show. The Little Mermaid Jr. takes place in a magical kingdom beneath the sea, where a beautiful young mermaid named Ariel longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above. But first, she'll have to defy her father, the king of the sea, escape the clutches of an evil sea witch and convince a prince that she's the girl with the perfect voice.

Five TRA High School Students Designated as All-State Honor Choir Members or Alternates
Juniors Shelbi Sellers and Logan King were named to the Tennessee All-State Honor Choir after their recent auditions in Jackson. Seniors Tyler Vernon and Reva Obenchain and junior Thomas Rinehart were named first or second alternates. All of the students are still eligible to participate in the All-State concert in Memphis this April.
Senior Austin Chambers named a Finalist by Memphis Fellowship of Christian Athletes for the John "Bull" Bramlett Award
The Memphis Area Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) announced four finalists for the 10th annual John "Bull" Bramlett Award presented by Brim's Snack Foods. The award was presented at this year's FCA / AutoZone Liberty Bowl Prayer Breakfast on December 28, 2013 to Kevin Jones of Trezevant High School. The four finalists were the student athletes in the Shelby County area who best exemplified excellence on the field, as well as high character, integrity and godliness off the field. The four finalists, all seniors and team captains, are Austin Chambers of Tipton Rosemark Academy, Kevin Jones of Trezevant High School, Grant Lewis of White Station High School and Dejuan McQuarters of Mitchell High School. Chambers was a Quarterback and Safety for the Rebels of TRA, while Jones was a standout on both the offensive and defensive lines for Trezevant's Bears. Lewis was an exceptional tight end and wide receiver for the Spartans, and McQuarters was all over the field for Mitchell's Tigers excelling at wide receiver, defensive back and as a return specialist. Each of the four finalists were leaders on teams which made it to the state playoffs and each stood out both on and off the playing field. The finalists and their families were guests of FCA at the annual prayer breakfast that was held at 8:00 am on December 28th at the Hilton Memphis. This year's breakfast featured Bill Curry, former NFL Pro-Bowl player and college coaching great.
John "Bull" Bramlett was a football and baseball standout at Memphis State University before becoming an all-pro NFL linebacker. Once known as the meanest man in the NFL, he became a dynamic speaker after his playing career ended, addressing groups across the country about his amazing turnaround after his encounter with the gospel. In August of this year, the acclaimed documentary "Taming the Bull" was released which detailed his incredible life transformation. Recent Bramlett Award recipients include Matt Thomson of St. George's in 2012, Gray Martin of Briarcrest in 2011, and Ryan Heaston of Cordova High in 2010. Eight TRA High School Students win big at Engineering Day at the University of Memphis
Twenty-nine TRA students took part in Engineering Day sponsored by the engineering department at the University of Memphis. Eight of the students came home with cash prizes and placed in the competition. Davin Schmidt won $200 by winning 1st place in the Boat Race, while Caroline Logan and Ashley Max took first prize in the Wind Power event and also received $200. Colton Olds, Mitchell Lawrence, Ethan Kaiser, and Skylar Spearman finished second in The Wall competition and garnered $100, and Colton and Mitchell also picked up $100 for placing second in the Water Filtration event. Third place and $50 went to Branson Bitzer in the Cardboard Beam event.
Engineering Day is open to any middle and high school students at TRA who would like to participate. The day included 13 events and signup was required one month in advance of competition day. The TRA science club sponsored any high school student that would like to participate. Each of the events required students to research, design, and/or build their product requirements prior to the competition day. Most of these students spent several hours prior to competition day on their design. TRA students competed against 15 other area schools.

Reva Obenchain named Commercial Appeal Academic All-Star
Tipton-Rosemark Academy Senior Reva Obenchain was named Commercial Appeal Academic All-Star for Music on December 29th. Reva, a senior, is an outstanding musical talent and a disciplined student. She holds a 4.0 grade point average and scored 28 on the ACT. She has taken many AP, Honors and Dual Enrollment classes. She has the role of Assistant Music Director for the middle school musical, "Little Mermaid Jr." She received the five-year All-West Award for outstanding musical achievement. She is a seven-year member of the Concert Choir, Show Choir and Competition Girls Jazz Ensemble and has served as a choir officer each year of high school. She received Superior scores at the Solo and Ensemble Festivals the past three years. In addition, Reva is a section leader and featured soloist at Chapel Worship Services. She has been active in the Theatre Department since sixth grade and held many lead roles. She had the lead role of Abby Brewster in "Arsenic and Old Lace." She is a member of the varsity cheerleading squad, Science Club and Spanish Club. Reva is completing her senior service project with the Millington Crisis Center. She spearheaded the design and construction of birdhouses to raise money for the center.
Connor Alexander named Commercial Appeal Academic All-Star
Tipton-Rosemark Academy Senior Connor Alexander was named Commercial Appeal Academic All-Star for General Scholarship on January 5th. Connor, a senior, is a top student and consummate leader. He holds a 3.95 grade point average and scored 31 on the ACT. He has taken the highest level of courses offered and excelled in all of them. He has been tapped for the National Honor Society, Beta Club and Mu Alpha Theta, the math honor society. He is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Bible Club. He has received the Headmaster's Award each year of high school and will graduate with a Distinguished Honors Diploma. He has been awarded the Cecil C. Humphreys Merit Scholarship from The University of Memphis. Captain of the varsity baseball team, Connor's leadership on and off the field has brought a positive atmosphere to the program and brought the team closer together. One of his greatest attributes is the ability to problem solve and see solutions others cannot. When Connor was researching ideas for his senior project, he found that Rivercrest Elementary needed volunteer tutors. He was thrilled to do this, recognizing the importance of good mentors in the lives of young people.
Tyler Vernon named Commercial Appeal Academic All-Star
Tipton-Rosemark Academy Senior Tyler Vernon was named Commercial Appeal Academic All-Star for Speech and Drama on December 8th. Tyler, a senior, is an extremely disciplined student who has a love of acting and directing. He holds a 3.8 grade point average and scored 26 on the ACT. He currently is serving as the Assistant Student Director for three stage productions. This position includes the roles of acting coach, stage director and set designer. His work with the fall show, "Arsenic and Old Lace" was exceptional. He held a lead role while mentoring other actors. His passion and work ethic earned him the respect of the entire cast, crew and production staff. This month Tyler will begin work on a middle school production of "Little Mermaid Jr." Earlier this year, he was nominated for "Best Lead Actor" in the Orpheum's 2013 High School Musical Theatre Awards. In the school's Fine Arts Award Ceremony, Tyler was named 2013 Best Actor of the Year and Most Versatile Performer. He has received the Academic Excellence Award five times and is a member of the Mu Alpha Theta, Beta Club and National Honor Society. In addition, Tyler is an Eagle Scout and volunteers for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Jake Roane victorious in TRA Spelling Bee
Seventh grader Jake Roane spelled his way to his second TRA Spelling Bee title on Tuesday, November 19th. Sixth grader Mac Fullen finished second while eighth grader Brittany Hall finished third. Jake also won the bee as a fifth grader. Ron Childers of WMC-TV 5 was the emcee for the event.
16 TRA Junior High School students receive All-Northwest Honor Choir Designation
Tipton-Rosemark Academy had sixteen junior high school students named to the All-Northwest Honor Choir. They were Director Lalania Vaughn, Caitlin Pfeifer, Kelsey Brooks, Meghan Gilbreath, Georgia Friend, Gracie Easley, Brittany Hall, Christiana Nyarko, Katelyn Stewart, Gregory Howard, Alex Langford, Mason O'Brien, Carter Weakley, Faith Conley, Will Jordan, Tucker Pitman, Caleb Cusick. They performed at West Jackson Baptist Church on Saturday, November 16th.
14 TRA 5th and 6th graders named to Tennessee Treble Honor Choir
Tipton-Rosemark Academy had fourteen fifth and sixth grade students named to the Tennessee Treble Honor Choir. They will perform at the Cannon Center for Performing Arts in Memphis on Thursday, April 10.
Two TRA Baseballers Sign to Play at the Next Level
Seniors Connor Alexander and Blain Curtis both signed Letters of Intent to play baseball at area schools next fall. Connor signed with the University of Memphis, while Blain will play at Christian Brothers University. McKenzie Brower completed the Commonwealth Honors Academy program at Murray State University
McKenzie Brower and 87 other students completed the three-week Academy at Murray State between June 8th and June 29th, 2013. During the three weeks, Academy scholars took two college-level courses, attended multiple lectures, concerts, field trips, and forums, and participated in a tri-weekly personal development seminar. As a successful graduate of the Academy, McKenzie will receive six hours of university credit, a $2,000 per year Murray State housing scholarship, and the option to take six additional hours from Murray State tuition-free.
18 TRA High School students receive All-Northwest Honor Choir Designation
Tipton-Rosemark Academy had eighteen high school students named to the All-Northwest Honor Choir, the largest delegation in school history. They were Heidi Miller, Sarah Lassiter, Tino Garibay, Logan King, Shelbi Sellers, Michaela Hoover, Jessi Edgerly, Carli Long, Reva Obenchain, Maddye Regis, Ashley Sweeney, Mary Kate Watson, Rachel Thomas, Tyler Vernon, Thomas Rinehart, Will Long, A. J. Wimberley, and Colton Vaughn. They will perform at West Jackson Baptist Church on Saturday, November 16th.
Andrew Edmiston named Commercial Appeal Academic All-Star
Tipton-Rosemark Academy Senior Andrew Edmiston was named Commercial Appeal Academic All-Star for General Scholarship on October 6th. Andrew seeks out opportunities to better himself academically by taking the most challenging courses the school offers. He holds a 4.0 unweighted grade point average and scored 34 on the ACT. He is a National Merit Semifinalist and secretary of the Student Government Association. He has received the Lamp of Knowledge award for the highest cumulative average every year of high school. A leader among his peers, Andrew is extremely humble and hard-working. Classmates look to him for academic as well as spiritual guidance. He attended the school's first annual mission trip to Chicago last summer. On this trip Andrew took on many leadership roles including leading prayer walks and leading the drama team that performed skits during Vacation Bible School held at the Pacific Garden Mission. Andrew is known as the first to volunteer to lead and/or organize projects. His is a crew leader every summer at his own church's Vacation Bible School. He also works on a Christmas event for children, performs trash clean-ups and volunteers with other non-profit organizations.
